Bulgaria 2001

Here's a few pictures of some of the people we saw while in Bulgaria late August-early Sept. 2001.

Baba Ganka is Toni's grandmother, and is 86 this year. Here she's doubling up thread for a knitting project. She pushes a chair for support when getting around and seems to get bossier with time, but otherwise is doing fine. Next is Baba Nellie (Toni's mother, Philip's grandmother), with Philip, (re)watching a video tape of Philip we had sent to her last year.

Philip gives a high-five to Mira, an old friend of Toni's. And Philip immediately likes Misho (the videotaper of our wedding).

Philip gets a (fast-braking) ride from Gergana, Misho's daughter. Then Gergana and Slavia show us some traditional Bulgarian dances.

Baba Nellie with her grandson, who hadn't seen each other until this trip. (He was two and a half). (Rob is also present). Playing outside on the street, Philip finds an admirer visiting from her uncle (the goat-herder)'s house on the corner.

The gravesite of Toni's father, Dimiter. He died Nov. 1998, a month and half before Philip was born.
