July-August-September 2011 - Kitchen remodeling

This is how the kitchen looked originally.

We're also redoing the bathroom since the tiles continue into there.

We took down the mirror which was being sorta held up by aging glue spots.

The first cabinet comes down!

We start emptying the kitchen. Pumpkin isn't supposed to be on the stove, but we'll give her a break this time.

And the kitchen gets emptier.

The old soffits need to go.

Most of the kitchen didn't go far - here's the dining room at the start.

We moved the refrigerator and cabinets in here and put the contents back in.

A view the other way. We can reach most things right from the table.

Then I start taking down the pantry. The new refrigerator will go here.

Now it's really empty. Looks so big! Pantry and soffits are gone, we keep the sink as long as possible.

Had to do a 'bit of rewiring'. Apparently the electrician liked to see what was going on.

Lots of conduits running where the soffits used to be.

Toni takes staples out of the subfloor, before the fiber rock panels go down for the new tiles (we have help for most of the following work).

New tiles go down! The cats are locked up all day, so they need to check out the changes too.

A view towards the sink area.

There's also some electrical work we hired out. But he got a little hole-crazy in the family room, where we're putting in some can lights. These are only about half of the holes.

It seems to have turned out okay though. Needs another coat of paint yet.

The new cabinets arrive.

The tall cabinets will be our pantry, and the space to the right where the pantry used to be will hold the refrigerator now.

Some of the appliances come in. We get the stove (stainless steel, still wrapped in the protective coat).

The peninsula starts taking shape. We're keeping the same basic layout to the kitchen.

The wall with the pantry cabinets is assembled.

Getting the countertops makes a big difference! These are granite.

A closer look at the countertop, and the hardware for the drawers.

Light is up in the bathroom, and the sink gets the same countertop treatment (we buy a slab, so might as well use it all).

The backsplash goes in, getting close now!

Still need the fridge and the glass doors between the pantries.

Now we can call it finished! (Passed final electrical inspection, but the plumber inspector wasn't so nice).

The pantry area is finished and the refrigerater is in place. (The flowers are for our 14 anniversary :-)

A closer look at the sink area.

The breakfast table is back in place.
